Recurring Tasks -- Future Items NOT on Calendar + Missing Recurring Info if Copied from Template

Hi Dooster's team -

I have the following 2 questions related to recurring tasks -

(1) I created a NEW PROJECT by selecting an existing template, and copy all Task Lists and Tasks from that template into the new project, incrementing due date by 1 day.
That existing template has recurring tasks.
I notice that all the recurring tasks and their due dates are copied over into the new project (due date incremented by 1 day as expected), and I see that the recurring tasks do show the recurring ICON. However, when I click "More Options" on these recurring tasks and click "recurring" to see the recurring settings, the radio button that says "no recurring" is the one being selected. Any idea why it won't show me the recurring settings instead?

(2) I don't see FUTURE recurring incidents on the calendar.
I thought we are supposed to see all future occurances on the calendar (unlike on the task lists where we will only see overdue reucrring tasks and the most recent recucrring tasks). Have something changed on the Dooster side on this?

Thanks,
Miranda

    Hi Sue -

Want to further clarify on the problem of CLONING a recurring task, or CLONING a PROJECT containing a recurring task.

I am showing you an example of a cloning a recurring task that is set as RECURRING MONTHLY (see the attached image)

    Basically the problems are --

RIGHT AFTER (BEFORE ANY CHANGE ARE MADE) the recurring task has been cloned, the cloned recurring task (the new one created) shows the following when you look at the task details/settings:
-- Shows "Task is Recurring" at the bottom, suggesting that it is recurring
-- "More Options" show "No Recurring", suggesting that it is not recurring
-- If you look at the calendar, you only see 1 incidents (no future instances are shown), confirming that the task is not recurring.
With all these, I think the cloned task created (the new one created) initially is not created as a recurring task. To make it into a recurring task, we have to make changes under "More Options" to un-select "No Recurring" and select another option.

Is there a way to actually clone a recurring task including its recurring settings, so this extra step will not be needed?

    Hi Dooster team -

Just following up on this. Do you think you can get back to us about the above questions / problems of CLONING recurring tasks soon?

We are now setting up our projects in Dooster, and have created a PROJECT TEMPLATE -- a template that we use as the baseline when we create new projects. This is because many of our projects are very similar to each other in terms of the TASK LISTS and the recurring TASKS each list contains. Our set up will be much easier if we can simply CLONE the PROJECT TEMPLATE with all the recurring tasks, so that all the tasks that we want recurring on the new PROJECTS will be set as recurring already once cloned. Right now it does not look like we can do that -- since after we CLONE the project, the recurring tasks that are supposed to repeat are not repeating -- we have to go in each task to set them to repeat again. Since we have many recurring tasks in our projects, doing so takes a lot of time.

Sorry Miranda. Is this happening with non cloned projects aswell?

    Thanks

    John -

We are cloning the projects because that's what we have set up as a TEMPLATE (to create new projects).

To answer your question though...I just now tested by creating a NEW PROJECT, then create a NEW RECURRING task in there. Then I CLONE THIS TASK on that task. A new task is created but Dooster takes us into that new task asking for recurring info (before we put in any recurring info, the screen shows "no recurring").

So it looks like cloning a task will not carryover the RECUR info. of the original task.

As I mentioned -- the problem is when we CLONE our PROJECT TEMPLATE, the template has many recurring tasks. So the CLONED PROJECT has those tasks also after cloning, but those tasks are not recurring and we have to "fix" them one by one.

    Thanks,
    Miranda

    Hi Sue -
I am sorry that I have to re-open this discussion.

To recap - this problem is about the RECURRING setting not copied from the TASK BEING CLONED to the TASK CLONED.

Testing some more, I have confirmed that this problem is solved when a TASK is cloned. I see that the RECURRING setting IS COPIED from the TASK BEING CLONED to the TASK CLONED.

However, this problem is NOT FIXED when a PROJECT is being cloned. That means I still see that when we clone a PROJECT, the recurring setting of recurring tasks inside that PROJECT is NOT COPIED to the tasks in the CLONED PROJECT. Would you have your tech team look into it? We should be able to CLONE a PROJECT with recurring tasks inside, and see that the CLONED PROJECT has the same recurring tasks starting off with the same recurring settings (until we change them afterwards).

    Thanks,
    Miranda

    Hi John -

Thanks for this. I have tested it and confirmed that this issue is fixed on CLONING a PROJECT as well. It works nicely.

    Best,
    Miranda
