<p>We'll discuss that in the next few days</p>
<p>Keep em coming ;-)</p>
<p>Thanks john</p></div>Johntag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/172071502012-07-16T16:27:09Z2012-07-16T16:27:09ZNeed "Days from Creation" instead of due date<div><p>If you do implement this (and I hope you do), it would also be
helpful to be able to set in the configuration of your site the
ability to deselect certain days from the calculated
increments.</p>
<p>This would help us to be able to deselect weekends from the
increments. (or other days if they are non-production days because
of meetings or sales appointments)</p>
<p>That way I can say, "this is due in two days" but if it's
Friday, it will be due on Tuesday.</p></div>Rubentag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/172071502012-07-16T17:28:15Z2012-07-16T17:28:15ZNeed "Days from Creation" instead of due date<div><p>Hi Ruben</p>
<p>Thank you. Appreciate the follow up</p>
<p>To be honest I'm not sure that we will do this. Here's what our
own team said:</p>
<p>"It's would be horrible for us. A lot of our due dates are 6
months in advance. We need to see an actual date like it is now -
not 183 days 6 hours 41 minutes..."</p>
<p>But we do appreciate other guys - like you - want it so will
keep it in consideration Ruben.</p>
<p>For example we are just launching a new "column display option"
- whereby you get to decide which columns you want displayed</p>
<p>Perhaps we can add a new column : " see the days count
down".</p>
<p>We'll discuss that one further</p>
<p>Thanks John</p></div>Johntag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/172071502012-07-16T20:03:02Z2012-07-16T20:03:03ZNeed "Days from Creation" instead of due date<div><p>It's not so much about me being able to see the number of days.
I don't really need that.</p>
<p>The thing is, we have different service packages that we offer
clients. We are trying to systematize our process as much as
possible. Very few project management systems are really created to
help you do that. Yours is one of the closest ones.</p>
<p>But we really want to systematize everything so for the most
part, we are doing the same things for every new client that hires
us. So being able to have a template for a new project is super
important to us (which you have in the form of cloning other
projects)</p>
<p>The issue then arises that when we create a new cloned project,
we can't very accurately redo the task due dates.</p>
<p>So if I did a project on Monday, it starts Monday and the tasks
are Due on Wednesday. Lets say I've got 30 totals tasks in that
project. i don't want to have to recreate them which is where
cloning comes in handy. But if I clone it, my choices are: The due
dates stay the same, Or are offset by a day, week, 2 weeks, month,
year. But those offset times don't always work for me. So I have to
go into those tasks and redo all the due dates manually. And the
increments don't take into account the weekends. Some of our
turnarounds are very fast so account for the weekends is very
important.</p>
<p>Ultimately, what I need is to be able to clone a project and be
able to have the new dates created in the same increments as the
project I'm clone but starting with the new creation date. And if
it took into account weekends, even better.</p>
<p>So my first thought was, maybe if the task could also be done
via days or weeks or other, from the creation date, then that would
solve my cloning issue with the dates. The new cloned project could
just take on the same increments as the original project. The other
Project management system I'm using lets you choose so that was
just my first thought on how it could work.</p>
<p>However, I did make another request that might work as well.<br>
<a href=
"http://dooster.tenderapp.com/discussions/suggestions/84-clone-project-dates">
http://dooster.tenderapp.com/discussions/suggestions/84-clone-proje...</a></p>
<p>It suggests that you create another checkbox or radio that says
"Increment Days According to New Creation Date" when you clone a
project. Then have it increment the tasks so that they maintain the
time periods from the original creation date to the original due
date but start with the new creation date spread out with the same
time period to the new Due dates.</p>
<p>Or if you could just make it so we can have more control over
the offset times that might work as well.</p>
<p>I hope that makes sense. Sorry for not explaining it better.</p></div>Rubentag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/172071502012-07-19T14:44:29Z2012-07-19T14:44:29ZNeed "Days from Creation" instead of due date<div><p>Hi Ruben</p>
<p>OK here's what our dev said</p>
<blockquote>
<blockquote>
<p>This is potentially a very complex feature based on the
suggestions he's making here and my main concern is that whilst on
a technical level the actual implementation isn't that complicated,
it's likely to cause a huge amount of user confusion (I'm not even
sure I would be able to explain how the end implementation works).
Most of his suggestion appears to rely on the original project
being cloned as having a start or creation date to increment the
tasks from. As far as I know we don't log the created date of a
project, just the created date of the tasks so one angle is to
start doing that. Another is to use the first start date in the
project as the assumed start date of the project (same way the
gantts do it), but as you can see even explaining this is getting
somewhat complex.</p>
<p>To try and make it as basic as possible, he says he wants more
control over the date increment rather than the rigid '1 week, 1
month, 1 year, etc' ones we have at the moment. I'm wondering if
perhaps modifying this to allow him to specify a custom value would
meet his needs?</p>
<p>we could modify the selector so that it allows you to choose a
number and then a unit (hours, days, weeks, years) to increment by.
This would allow all combinations like 1 hour, 100 days, etc.</p>
<p>BUT the best plan is to get Ruben to give a mini but detailed
spec as to exactly how he wants this to work. If he can do that
then he knows what he wants. Which means it is doable. The concern
is that as with past users when we give them what they asked for
it's like "oh that's nice. Thanks But I dont really need it after
all."</p>

<p>Ruben can you do this eg</p>
<p>1) Create new project<br>
2) Click on "Use another project as a Template" feature<br>
3) In the reulting pop up, place the following (between X and
Y)</p>
<p>OK?</p>
<p>Thanks John</p></div>John
