<p>Great to have some positive suggestions like that.</p>
<p>Yes we are working on the templates</p>
<p>But your idea of a Dooster sharing community where people could
share their Dooster project templates with one another is very
good. That just hadn't occured to us !</p>
<p>Any ideas on how / where that would best work? eg does this
<a href=

help / forum area seem like a good place ?</p>
<p>Thanks again</p>
<p>Ed</p></div>edtag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/220805632012-12-04T23:17:04Z2012-12-04T23:18:03ZBusiness Templates<div><p>Maybe but honestly I think it would be better to have a separate
area (you can use the same code perhaps) for the Dooster Best
Practices Templates, and put this community front and center on the
home page.</p>
<p>Another comment: I have been thinking about this and let me
describe what I think you really need to have in your Dooster
templates in order for this to be maximally successful.</p>
<p>Today, more so than ever in the past, managing a project or
process is done using web services and also, ideas from articles
people have written on the web. The first thing I do when trying to
do something new is Google for web services or articles! Therefore,
I believe you need to have, for each task in a project, the ability
to attach, in addition to files or links to files, a list of
bookmarks and a note field for each bookmark explaining how the
bookmark is to be used.</p>
<p>Work today is done in an ecosystem of online services of which
Dooster is just one part. Here is an example. Say I have
successfully remodeled my house using Dooster. Well, I have almost
surely used other services as well. For example, I might have
obtained a good contractor using Angie's List or some other such
service. I might have read a fantastic article on designing a
bathroom.</p>
<p>If I am to convey this effectively to a new person using my
template, I need to be able to attach, at the relevent Task in the
project, the URL for Angie's List together with a description of
how to use Angie's List to get the contractor, or the URL of the
news article that tells me how to design the bathroom. See what I
mean?</p>
<p>So in Dooster you need a database object appendable to each
task, which is a list of URL's and user-written URL-specific
description or instructions for each URL. The descriptions and the
URL's should render together as a single page when I mouse over the
project task, so it's very easy to read or re-read the list of
URL's together with what to do with each of them, when I am
scanning the Dooster project template.</p>
<p>I think if you do this, project best practice sharing is going
to take a flying leap forward because it has never been done before
in this way which truly leverages the cloud of applications and
services ecosystem, and the Internet's knowledge base. You will
enable your users to make a major contribution to management
efficiency in the world.</p>
<p>Many other examples: e.g. in a real estate project. Step X:
appraise the house. Use <strong><strong><em>.com
and</em></strong></strong> .com to get a ballpark idea of the
home's value. Use this online service rent-an-appraiser.com which
is incredibly cheap and fast. They can perform in less than a week,
so I put only 1 week for this step. You see how incredibly useful
this database structure of URL's and comments is inside a project
plan?</p></div>Publiustag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/220805632012-12-07T15:15:00Z2012-12-07T15:15:01ZBusiness Templates<div><p>also if users could attach a video of themselves explaining what
to do at that step in the project, which also either plays
automatically on mouseover or is clickable by the user, that would
be absolutely fascinating for people and would really help. I.e.
click here to use your webcam to record an explanation of this
project step for users.</p>
<p>The person could carry their laptop around and say, let me show
you my kitchen remodel at this stage, or let me demonstrate how you
have a supervisory conversation with an employee at this point in
the project management process, etc. This would be <em>so
useful</em>.</p>
<p>Obviously you want to enable other users to comment on
individual project tasks and on the project as a whole, to
facilitate knowledge sharing and crowdsourcing of ideas by the
community. Also you might let other users rate the project plans of
other users.</p>
<p>Also you will know which of the templates are getting the most
actual use since you can see that in your system. So definitely
rank projects in the community by # of people using them on
Dooster, as well as by category. This gives people who want to
promote themselves as project management geniuses, an incentive to
get their projects used on Dooster! Major community lockin there
:-)</p>
<p>Also hard to spoof since it's a pain to establish new accounts
and pretend to use a project template over time. So it's a very
credible signal of the value of a project plan as perceived by
other Dooster users. Also there is a big incentive for people in
the area (e.g. real estate) to market their project plans to other
people in the same area to get them to use Dooster, so they are
perceived as the experts in their area.</p>
<p>Now I have to get off this subject and get back to work! :-)</p></div>Publius
