hi all,

i have tried to run the android app, but only get asked fror username - no password. after entering my username i get taken to a dashboard where i can see the add task button and three bittons on the bottom, but nothing else.

after closing the app and reopening, the screen where i enter my username is inverted - ie the box where i enter my username is white with orange border, but the whole of the rest of the screen is black.

i reopen the app and get thrown out after trying to enter my username.

i have once seen what appears to be a proper logon screen (with the 2 entry boxes truncated on the right as if for a different screen resolution), but cannot get back to it.

i haven't rated this app yet on the market, as you have no other ratings and mine would be a 1* atm, that may hurt you. so please, prompt feedback and resolution of these problems so i can give a good rating!!

ps android 2.3

also the graphics look quite grainy on a desire hd, not very clean looking.

    Hi Phil

Thank you for alerting us to this issue - and for giving us fair warning of your intended feedback

We will have to check this with the developers

They are a third party so please bear with us for a few hours

    Thanks ed

    Hi Phil

    Our guys said

The first box to enter is the account, that needs to be correct for the username and password to work on the next screen.

Android is a nightmare for multitasking/app management. Ask him to restart, then open app, enter account name, wait for username / pass to show and enter there.

Phil: please let me know if this remains an issue

    Repeated apologies

    Thanks ed

    Hi Sue

that is correct. At present you can't add new people while in your mobile app

Please note that we will be happy to add more features to the mobile app if and when people request them

    thanks ed

No, still have the same problems. After entering username I go straight to
an empty dashboard. Also have fc's.

    OK our guys said

The speed of the login page loading will depend on his connection. It's usually a few seconds but it could be a while if the connection is slow.

Please try that and let us know

    thanks

OK finally logged in. This app needs some serious work, currently very below
    par at the moment.

       - Why the 2 step login?
       - Why full screen?
       - Why no offline access? I may as well be using my browser rather than
this app. This suggest that this is a browser skin rather than a true app,
your users will not be happy!
       - See screenshot below for truncation of boxes, looks poor.
       - See screenshot for poor quality graphics at bottom of screen.
       - No configurable options at all?

I can understand your desire to get an app to market, but with the number of
task/todo apps out there, your's needs to have polish and usability to stand
out, and currently is lacking on both. i suggest pulling this app until you
    have a working, polished app.

ps i hope you don't think i'm being harsh, i'm just trying to give honest
    feedback.

No you're not being "harsh". It's fine. Any feedback is really appreciated

    To answer your questions

    • Why the 2 step login?

We are working on that. it should be improved soon

    • Why full screen?

Not sure what else you'd expect. Can you elaborate on that?

    • Why no offline access? I may as well be using my browser rather than this app. This suggest that this is a browser skin rather than a true app, your users will not be happy!

This is a thin app - not a "native app". But there are clear benefits over using your browser eg clarity (full screen ;-) , and speed

    • See screenshot below for truncation of boxes, looks poor.
    • See screenshot for poor quality graphics at bottom of screen.

OK thanks we will correct those

    • No configurable options at all?

Sorry. Not sure what you mean

re >>I can understand your desire to get an app to market, but with the number of

I do appreciate your point Phil. But please note we're not "selling" this on android marketplace as a native app. We try to make clear that it's an add on to dooster.net / web app. (Please let me know if we should change anything in the description etc)

We did the thin apps in response to user requests and previous feedback has been it's "good enough".

If you are a dooster account owner, collaborating with others, it is a way of keeping in contact with your tasks while "offline" / away from your big screen.

It would be interesting if you gave a wishlist of features you'd like to see in your perfect android task app. We might be able to do at least some of them soon.

Appreciate you've spent a lot of time on this so if we don't hear from you again many thanks

    best wishes

    Hi,

    * - Why full screen?

Not sure what else you'd expect. Can you elaborate on that?*

I would expect the app to behave like most other apps and show the status
bar. only media players really need full screen.

I understand that you make no great claims regarding your app, but why not
    set your sights high!!

I notice that while you do not charge for the android app, you do charge for
for more than 3 projects, so the 'but it's free' argument may not be
    accurate...

regarding the perfect android task manager app-

       - an offline app with sync to online service
       - tags/lists, due dates, status and priorities
       - simple to filter the tasks by the above (see check off)
       - swipe to browse lists / tags (see gtasks)
       - nice UI (see things for iphone, wunderlist, dgt, checkitoff, gtasks)
       - configurable hotlist (like toodledoo)
       - today / this week view (like Due Today)
       - sub tasks
       - notes for tasks

(Hmm i posted quite a long reply yesterday which has disappeared... Please let me know if you got an email with it and I'll report a bug to tenderapp).

Anyway thanks again for your time Phil. I note all your comments.

Thanks also for your wish list.

Sorry but we won't be doing anything like that anytime soon. Ie a fully fledged native app. There are already some very good solutions out there. However imho they don't quite cover the requirements that a typical SME type business manager and team have and that a web app like Dooster gives them.

I would love to do a better mobile app but to be honest it is very difficult finding the right people. Mobile apps are flavour of the month and as with many goldrushes the good the bad and the ugly have piled in. We've been through 4 developers to get to what we have...

However what we will be doing in the next weeks will be to release an API. This means that good mobile developers will be able to take the parts of dooster they want to use for their own take on a mobile version of Dooster.

    All the best

    ed
