Milestone viewing

I have created milestones in our project, but other users cannot see them, even if they have view, edit, and create permission. Is there a method that I can use so they can see the project milestones?
Thanks, --Wayne

    Hi Wayne

thank you for letting us know - and sorry to hear that

We have checked and milestones seem to work OK.

So can you give some specifics about exactly who can't see the milestone

ie their email and what permissions they have in that particular project

    Thank you for your cooperation

    Best wishes

    Hi Ed,

I had created a fictitious person and used gmail for that person and saw the exact same thing when I logged on as that fictitious person. However, the email for this user is [email blocked]. I have given him permissions to view only, edit items, and add items. All three boxes are checked. I am the one that input the milestones as the RATC project owner.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

    Hi Wayne

    Thank you for responding

Which Milestones screen are you looking at? The "all milestones" one that is on the left side navigation. Or a project specific one?

    Thanks John

    Hi Ed,

The milestones on the right shows up as Wayne's Milestones and the project specific show's up as RATC Milestones. When I log on as another user with view, edit, and add privileges, if I click on either the "all milestones" button or the project specific milestones, I get the message: Sorry! You do not have sufficient permission level to access this.

    Thanks for clarifying Wayne

    Ok Got it

This is simply because that member is not a project manager

Try raising their permissions to PM

    Thanks John

    Ed,

Okay, I understand, but I don't want them to have project manager permission. Why can't they see the milestones with a lower permission? Doesn't it seem reasonable that nearly everyone should see milestones? What is Dooster's thinking on this?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

The reason only a PM can see the Milestone is because these comprise one or several tasks lists

You can click into the task lists from the milestone.

It doesnt really make sense if for example the Milestone says " 7 out of 10 done" yet the user can only view 3 tasks that they have permissions to see.

Wayne; can I turn the question around.? Why would you want someone who is not a PM to have an overview such as Milestones gives

    Thanks John

    Ed,

Okay, I can see your point about the progress bar not exactly making sense. On the other hand, the active milestones view could give everyone visibility on the project goals as a whole so they can know how their tasks may be influencing major milestones. If a major milestone is complete when tasks A, B, and C are completed and an individual is responsible for task B, he could look at his task completion date and have some idea on how it might impact the milestone. I am getting quite a bit of feedback that our people want to know what the major milestones are and when they are due.
Also, it seems people are very turned off by this bold, red screen that "yells" at them that they don’t have permission (just a side note).

One other suggestion, I have seen it several times, but I would have to look around to duplicate it, but if you are logged on as someone else and try to look at a task, you get a message that says something like "You have found a bug". Actually, there should be a message that says something like "You don't have permission to see this screen" or something like that. A minor irritation and most users probably won't run into this.

Thanks for the conversation on this,
    Wayne

OK thank you Wayne. That is good feedback and we appreciate it

We are building gantts and I will discuss how we can incorporate into them this "team inclusion" idea you have come up with

We will improve the permissions screen

AND will look for that bug you ID'd. ( I appreciate your point that most users probably won't run into this. But if you saw it thenl others will too - so we'll try to find it ).

    Thanks again

    John,

Thank you for considering my inputs. We will be registering a paid version of the product soon and begin using it for our project. I look forward to future improvements. There are a lot of collaborative software packages out there, but keeping the interface clean and simple, and not cluttering the software with too many alternatives will certainly find a niche market.

    John,

I have a couple of problems you may be able to help with.

    1) When I enter tasks for a specific project and I look at the project calendar, every task is duplicated in the calendar. However, if I click the calendar button in the left-hand side of the screen, I see the task and it is not duplicated. Do I have some setting in the project settings that is causing every task to be duplicated?
    2) As a side note, not critical, but perhaps a problem for some: The calendar always shows up in 24 hour time increments even though I have selected 12 format in my settings.
What I see when on the project calendar scheduling one meeting for example looks like this:
    13:30 – 14:30
    Project Meeting
    13:30 – 14:30
    Project Meeting

    3) Critically important right now: I cannot seem to permanently delete tasks. I have tried deleting some scheduled meetings and they disappear from my task list, then some time later, they reappear and often duplicated each time, so that the number of duplicated tasks keep increasing larger and larger. I go Back into deleting them again and they disappear, then suddenly appear again. Sometimes after logging off, the logging on, but not always.

    Thank you for your help,
    Wayne

    Hi Wayne

Sorry about these issue - and thank you for reporting them

    Are you synced with Google?

    Hi Ed,

Yes I was synced with Google. I just now did an unsync with Google and the calendar does NOT show the duplication now. Is there a way to stop the duplication when synced? I'm headed home now, but will look for your responses tomorrow.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Ok I think the issue may be due to a delay with Google propagating the
tasks onto Dosster - which means Dooster gets confused and shows them as
    duplicates

This might have improved by the time you see this so can you resync then
and let us know how it looks

Thank you Wayne Appreciate the feedback

    Ed,

I just got a moment to get back on Dooster. It now appears as a single listing for my tasks, much better. Hooray.

Any clues why I cannot seem to permanently delete tasks. I realize this may be harder to track down since you may not see the same problem. I have tried moving all tasks that I want to delete into a single Task List heading which makes it easier to find all the ones I want to delete. They do appear deleted for awhile, then sooner or later they reappear, duplicated, triplicated, or more.

Today I am noticing they are gone from my task lists, but appear in the "Upcoming Tasks" in my Project Overview and also appear on the calendar, but not on the Gantt Charts. I hope that gives you a few more clues.

These deleted tasks that reappear. Were they originally Google events?

    Ed,

I took a few moments and went to Account Settings to uncheck the Exchange Calendars box. It unchecks, and I click Update, but every time I go back into Account Settings the box shows up as checked again. I then went to Google calendars, did an unsync with them, deleted all of the extra tasks, and now the Overview window and the Calendar windows are cleaned up and look good.

So you were right, my problem is again associated with the Google calendar sync. I do note that I still cannot get the Exchange Contacts box in Dooster to stay unchecked, but it does not seem to cause any problem that I see.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

We will look into it and fix ASAP

    Hi Wayne

I discussed all this with one of our guys - apologies for the length of time it's taken

    First

re this >> "These deleted tasks that reappear. Were they originally Google events?"

Actually - my bad - that's to be expected. If you delete a Google created event in Dooster it will be recreated by the sync. It HAS to be deleted on Google and should then disappear on Dooster as well. This is in our FAQ / Help

Re >> I still cannot get the Exchange Contacts box in Dooster to stay unchecked, but it does not seem to cause any problem that I see.

we've been unable to identify a problem with this form. Can you try with a different browser or on a different machine ?

    Thanks

    Hi Ed,

Most of my problems went away after you suggested they were linked to the synchronization with Google events and I deleted that link.

I believe the Exchange Contacts box not going completely away is also left over from the link. The box does uncheck, but when re-entering the Account Settings, it shows up as checked again. Logging onto the Google Chrome browser, I do not see this problem. I hope this helps. It doesn't appear to be a serious problem or affect anything, probably only worth a low level effort to fix someday.

    Wayne
