Cloning A Project

I am looking to create a project and copy all of the tasks over which seems basic, but how do I uncomplete all the tasks so that they will copy over to the new project with the date increase I have selected? Do I have to go through the project task by task and mark them uncomplete in order to have them copy to the new project at the selected day interval?

Thanks,
Jon

    Hi Jon

No you don't have to go through the project task by task and mark them uncomplete in order to have them copy to the new project at the selected day interval

Try it out. If it doesn't work you can delete the clone project and start again

On a separate note if you ever want to complete several tasks simply using the multi action tool that's on each list

    Thanks !

    Hi John,

I have tried it multiple times, but when I go to the new project the tasks
show as completed and have the due dates I originally assigned to them in
the original project associated with them.

    Please advise.

    Regards,
    Jon

OK sorry about that Jon It sounds like a bug

But its working OK for me so could you define the steps you're talking

    eg

    • Create new project and click on template

    • select the "increment dates by ?? [how much?]

    • open new project and...

    Thanks Jon and repeated apologies

    Hi John,

I am clicking on Add Project
Click on Template and choose the race I am basing it off of
I select the increment at 189 day
    It creates the new project

When I open the new project it is 100% complete and when I click on a
milestone all of the tasks under it are already completed and show the due
date that I originally assigned to them when I created the original project.

    Hi Jon

we have tested this fully. Here's the report from one of our coders

I have just tested this and can confirm it is working. In my test I created a project with several tasks, some of which had due dates, some tasks marked as complete and some without due dates. I then created a new project using this one as a template with the option enabled to increment the due dates by 1 year.

The new project appeared correctly, with all of the due dates set exactly one year in the future.

I suspect therefore that there may be confusion over the feature:

    1) When opting to increment due dates on a project when creating from a template, it is important to ensure that the checkbox next to the option is selected (it isn't by default), otherwise the due dates will remain the same as in the template project.

It is also important to note that this option ONLY affects due dates, not the created date attached to the tasks. (these can be changed using the other checkbox)

    2) When creating a new project from a template, it is also important to note that any tasks which are marked as completed in the original project will remain completed in the copy.

If you're sure he's understood the above correctly, and he's still certain there's a bug, I need to know:

The account name, the name of the project he's cloning, the browser he's using to do it, and whether task statuses are enabled on said project.

I also need confirmation of whether the creation was done via the standalone version of the Create Project dialog (as seen when clicking Add Project) or via the edit task dialog.

OK Jon please try it again and if there's an issue please let me know the above specifics
    Thank you

    John

    Hi John,

#2 is the issue - all the tasks in the project I am cloning are completed.
Is there a way to uncomplete the tasks for a project in bulk? It seems
crazy to me that I would want to clone a project that didn't have completed
tasks. I just completed the project for year 2013 and want to move it to
2014. Let me know if I have any options other that going in and
uncompleting them one at a time.

    Thanks,
    Jon

    Aah OK I understand

That's easy; simply using the multi action tool that's on each list. You can select uncomplete up to 100 tasks with one click

so I would do that on the "mother" project... then clone the project... then mark them as complete again on the mother project

    OK?

    thanks ed
