tag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:/discussions/bug-reports/37-something-thats-been-coming-up-when-we-assign-tasksThe Online Business Managing Tool: Discussion 2016-08-12T03:25:35Ztag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/127208272012-01-06T19:23:44Z2012-01-06T19:24:12Zsomething that’s been coming up when we assign tasks.<div><p>Here’s something that’s been coming up when we
assign tasks.</p>
<p>Sometimes we can’t get into the person’s project
list (this just happened again with a staff member assigning me a
task), so I had her try to assign it to me from within her OWN task
list. She COULD accomplish that. I did check her permissions and
she was checked off for everything except project manager within my
project list. I even unchecked everything, and rechecked them and
updated permissions and she still couldn’t “see”
my project list. This oddity we’ve seen at least a few
times.</p>
<p>However, when a task is assigned this alternate way (from within
someone else’s project), the task does NOT appear in my own
project list. It DOES show if I access it from the Dashboard (tasks
assigned to me), but NOT in my own project list. It would be a
great asset if we could see ALL tasks assigned to every person in
his/her own task list. Right now the list totals don’t match.
I have six in my own project list and 7 if I look in dashboard. If
I click on tasks from the dashboard link I can see them all.
However, we set our default to open to our own project lists so
that people are reminded about what to do as soon as Dooster opens
up. They won’t remember to check in both places to be sure to
see ALL tasks assigned to them by others.</p>
<p>I believe we’re assigning tasks properly and have given
everyone ALL permissions except project manager to help alleviate
any problems with access.</p>
<p>When you have time I’d like to hear your thoughts on
this.<br>
Thanks very much.</p></div>Ronnietag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/127208272012-01-06T19:34:01Z2012-01-06T19:34:01Zsomething that’s been coming up when we assign tasks.<div><p>Hi Ronnie</p>
<p>can you clarify a couple of things</p>
<blockquote>
<blockquote>
<p>I had her try to assign it to me from within her OWN task
list</p>
</blockquote>
</blockquote>
<p>what do0 you mean? has she got her own account and is sharing a
project with you?<br>
where is this task list? for example in relation to >> within
my project list.</p>
<p>Lets start from there ;-)</p>
<p>thanks ed</p></div>edtag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/127208272012-01-06T19:45:47Z2012-01-06T19:45:47Zsomething that’s been coming up when we assign tasks.<div><p>Each staff member has his/her own project list (Kristin's
"tasks", Ronnie's "tasks", etc.).<br>
We have full permission to go into the other person's project list
and assign a task to that person. In other words, Kristin should be
able to go to Ronnie's "tasks" (project) and add a new task (task)
for me there. Sometimes this does not work.</p>
<p>So, people go into their OWN project (called Kristin's "tasks")
and assign a new task to another person there. That works but then
you do not see the task in the assignee's own project list (because
it's in Kristin's own project list but assigned to someone
else).</p>
<p>Not sure why first scenario doesn't always work (because
everyone has full permissions, so there is a glitch there
somewhere). But it would be helpful if we have to do the workaround
if ALL tasks assigned to a person showed up in their project
list.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, we didn't realize it would cause confusion to
name our individual project lists Kristin's "tasks". It only
confuses things when I'm trying to explain it to you because you
call those main lists projects.</p>

<p>OK so as i undertand it Kristin has her own project</p>
<p>inside this she has a task list "My tasks" - or similar</p>
<p>IF Person A is a member of her project and has suitable
permissions access - in this case " Add Tasks" then A should be
able to add tasks to any list</p>
<p>If this isnt happening then its a bug</p>
<p>first please check</p>
<p>1) the definitely have adequate permissions</p>
<p>2) They do not have another dooster account open in the same
browser (ie a whol;e different account like John.dooster.net when
they are trying to do stuff in janet.dooster.net</p>
<p>3) re >> Sometimes we can’t get into the

<p>how are you trying to do that exactly?</p>
<p>Thanks ed</p></div>edtag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/127208272012-01-06T20:10:25Z2012-01-06T20:10:25Zsomething that’s been coming up when we assign tasks.<div><p>Yes, I checked all three points.<br>
Everyone has ALL permissions EXCEPT project manager in everyone
else's projects (on purpose because we wanted to be able to
add/make notes/assign to everyone's lists). I rechecked when
Kristin could not assign me a task. I looked in Ronnie's project
list under people and she was listed there with all 3 checkboxes
checked. I unchecked and rechecked then updated just to make
sure.</p>
<p>No one has any other dooster accounts. Just

<p>OK we have looked at the "bug" in some detail</p>
<p>What is happening is correct, albeit possibly confusing
behaviour. Kristin can see in to your - Ronnie's - project fine,
but the problem is that there are 7 tasks in that project, all
assigned to Ronnie.</p>
<p>With Kristin's current permissions level (i.e. NOT a project
manager, owner or co-ordinator) she can logically only see tasks in
a project assigned to her or "anyone", so from Krsitins point of
view the project will appear as empty.</p>
<p>Ronnie can you have a think and let me know if we can improve
user expereince... Or even tell us how you would prefer the
permissions to work.</p>
<p>The logic for us is that it is important for the project manager
to be able to hide tasks from people with lower permissions. (This
is what our users have asked for.) If the PM wants everyone to see
everything then they simply make the other person a PM aswell</p>
<p>Thank you</p>
<p>Best wishes</p>
<p>Ed</p>
<p>PS I think the user confusion happens because if their are no
visible tasks for the user in a project at all, it doesn't display
the task list headers either but instead shows the "Create your
first task list for this project" as if the project is empty. We
will change this so that at least the task lists appear, but show
as empty</p></div>edtag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/127208272012-01-10T00:19:10Z2012-01-10T00:19:10Zsomething that’s been coming up when we assign tasks.<div><p>Hi Ed.</p>
<p>I have to look into this piece a bit more and tomorrow I'll be
out of the office having some oral surgery (fun).</p>
<p>We do have another question. May be a bug or may be we're not
doing something correctly.</p>
<p>We have many recurring tasks and love the way we think Dooster
is supposed to handle these. It DOES remind us of recurring tasks,
but it doesn’t keep the original "time" set for the task. We
need it to do that.</p>
<p>For instance, every Monday morning staff members are supposed to
load some tweets into our tweetspinner program. It needs to be done
before 11:00 a.m. We set recurring tasks and when the first one is
done, that's fine, but the next week when it comes up, the time due
is not correct. We need the original time set (or anything we
change it to) to become the recurring time also. Now it changes it
to 5:00 pm. 1:00 a.m. sometimes. Not sure what is creating that.
But needless to say, the task reminder is no good if it's beyond
when we set it for the first time.</p>
<p>Any clarification would be welcome.</p>
<p>Thanks very much.</p>

for asking. Should be better tomorrow.</p>
<hr>
<p>Here's a response about the original issue (not the recurring
time thing which you're still working on).</p>
<p>I think there might still be some miscommunication here. Kristin
cannot see into my project at all. She seem the title "Ronnie
TASKS" on her left sidebar, but when she clicks it, she only sees
the "Create your first task list for this project" that you
mentioned in your PS. But when she clicks that link, it continues
to bring up a red message that tells her she does "not have
sufficient permission level to access this." I have made sure that
she is allowed access to assigning tasks in my list, but nothing we
have done thus far has allowed her to assign me a task in MY
project list. And if I understand correctly, if she assigns
something to me in her own list, then the only way I can see it is
if I'm looking at her list or at my dashboard. Our goal is to have
everyone able to assign tasks to others' lists, so that the person
who is responsible for it is seeing it in their own list, and
doesn't have to search elsewhere for it.</p>

<p>The issue is simply that if Kristen is not assigned a task in a

Project manager</p>
<p>She can only see tasks assigned to her or to "anyone" in

<p>Re >>if I understand correctly, if she assigns something

<p>yes you are correct</p>

In other words, Kristin should be able to go to Ronnie's "tasks"
(project) and add a new task (task) for me there. Sometimes this
does not work.</p>
<p>But actually it seems you did not have full permissions ie were
not project managers. That's why it did not work</p>
<p>I think the easiest thing you can do to acheive what you want
here is to make everyone Project Managers of these particular
projects.</p>
<p>If Kristin is a PM then she would >> be able to go to
Ronnie's "tasks" (project) and add a new task (task) for me
there.</p>
<p>Thanks Ronnie !</p>
<p>best wishes</p>

View only (can only see, but not touch)<br>
Edit and Add tasks (seems this is what we'd want people to be able
to see ALL but edit and add tasks assigned to just them.<br>
Project Manager: (should be able to view, edit and add tasks
whether or not they are assigned the task).</p>
<p>I may not want to assign everyone to be project manager in every
project. I'd like them to be able to VIEW ALL tasks but only edit
tasks that are assigned to them.</p>
<p>Perhaps this is not possible, but assigning everyone as project
manager on all projects seems to be the only way for them to see or
add tasks to everyone but it feels counterintuitive to have many
people "responsible, project manager" for all projects/tasks.</p>

<p>well we could think about changing that. but no doubt we'll

<p>the thing is that someone in a project who can see everything or

<p>I just got a report from one of our guys about the recurring
task / time<br>
changing issue</p>
<p>He says (for what its worth ;-) >> Very strange bug this
one, but it turns<br>
out to be an obscure timezone comparison issue, whereby the due
date of the<br>
task is stored internally as UTC and converted accordingly to the
user's<br>
timezone. During the recurring mechanism, the next time is
generated from<br>
the due date, however the due date doesn't take into account
this<br>
conversion and therefore allowed a skew of 6 or so hours depending
on the<br>
user's timezone. I've corrected this,</p>
<p>The fix will go live tomorrow AM.</p>
<p>Thank you for spotting that Ronnie</p></div>edtag:dooster.tenderapp.com,2011-05-09:Comment/127208272012-01-11T19:38:14Z2012-01-11T19:38:14Zsomething that’s been coming up when we assign tasks.<div><p>Don't want you to upset existing users if it works well for them
the way it is. We'll try assigning people as project managers and
see how that works for us.</p>
<p>Very happy that you'll make the timezone change to the recurring
task thing. That will be very helpful.</p>
<h2>We'll keep in touch about the other stuff, and see how it
goes.</h2>
<p>Is it possible to revisit the issue of seeing ALL the tasks that
are assigned to you when you go into your own projects? The
discrepancy in numbers between tasks in that person's project and
tasks that appear in the dashboard is a bit tricky for us.</p>
<p>Maybe this is related to the other issue in regard to project
manager, but it would be helpful to me to see every task assigned
to me (whether in someone else's project list or my own). Same with
other staff members here. I saw 6 tasks in my project assigned to
me but if I click on dashboard it seems I had 7, not 6.</p>
<hr>
<p>So happy you're responsive to everyone's needs.</p>
<p>Best to you,</p>

dashboard under tasks assigned to me, but we can't see it in our
own individual projects. We named our individual staff names with
"projects" called Ronnie's Tasks, Kristin's Tasks, Joe's Tasks etc.
We wanted any and all tasks assigned to us as individuals to show
up in here, but dooster sees projects (although we have used a
naming function as Ronnie's Tasks for instance) as different from
all of the tasks assigned to my name.</p>
<p>That's probably why there is a discrepancy. We have defaulted
our views to show us our individual project lists (Ronnie's Tasks)
as what we see when we open Dooster. Is there a way to default what
we open to as the "tasks assigned to me" from the dashboard rather
than our individually named project list?</p>
<p>Then we wouldn't miss anything.</p>
<p>Boy, you must be tired of hearing from us by now.<br>

<p>What you seem to want is that if say you / Ronnie creates a task
inside<br>
your project (Ronnie's Tasks) and assign it to Kristin, she would
then be<br>
able to see it in the Kristin's Tasks project.</p>
<p>That's possible,</p>
<p>but when creating the task you would need to save it to the
correct<br>
project, and it can ONLY appear in one project at a time. E.g. if
Ronnie<br>
creates a task and saves it to Kristin's Project, it won't appear
in<br>
Ronnie's Project</p>
<p>I think the easiest thing here will be to use the "Tasks
assigned to me" in<br>
your dashboard. Just click thru to it</p>
<p>Re>>Boy, you must be tired of hearing from us by now.</p>
<p>hehe It's a long thread But it's fine . Bring it on ;-)</p></div>ed
